Ahn Hyo-seop to headline fantasy drama ‘Abyss’ opposite Park Bo-young

Ahn Hyo-seop has been confirmed as the lead actor in tvN’s upcoming fantasy drama Abyss, according to an announcement made by the drama’s production team on February 11.

Abyss, which already secured Park Bo-young as the lead actress, has gained the attention of Korean drama viewers for its rather unconventional plot, one which involves a mysterious marble called “Abyss” with powers to reincarnate souls of dead people as entirely different individuals. Ahn Hyo-seop will play the role of Cha Min, an intelligent heir of a famous Korean cosmetics company. While he is smart and rich, he is insecure about his physical appearance—which suddenly changes after the marble falls into his hands and he is reincarnated as a handsome law firm administrator.

On the other hand, Park Bo-young will portray Go Se-yeon, a beautiful female prosecutor who gets reborn as a completely average-looking woman after an accident involving Cha Min and the mysterious marble. She finds her resurrection uncanny, so she goes on a mission to unveil the secrets of how she changed and discovers true love in the process.

Abyss will be Park Bo-young’s comeback project on the small screen since starring in the hit fantasy rom-com Strong Woman Do Bong Soon in 2017. Meanwhile, Ahn Hyo-seop’s most recent project is the 2018 SBS drama Thirty But Seventeen.

Producers of the show are excited as both Park Bo-young and Ahn Hyo-seop have signed up for their respective roles. It will be refreshing for the viewers to witness the collaboration of the veteran actress and the rookie actor.

Abyss is scheduled to air in the first half of 2019.
