“Arthdal Chronicles” is one of the most awaited Korean dramas of the year. It is the first ancient times fantasy drama of Korea!
Top Hallyu actor Song JoongKi and actress Kim JiWon are reuniting for this project. Previously, they acted in the worldwide popular drama “Descendants of the Sun” (2016), Song JoongKi and Song HyeKyo were the main leads and Kim JiWon and JinGoo were the second main leads. The top actor is back after 3 years to the small screen.
Song JoongKi has been part of many other well-known dramas such as “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” (2010) and “The Innocent Man” (2012). Kim JiWon also had proved her great acting skills and have gain popularity with the drama “Fight For My Way” (2017).

Different from the majority of the Korean dramas, the drama will be on a series system. Season 2 was already confirmed.

It tells the stories of various heroes writing different legends of the mystical and ancient country of Asdal.
Song JoongKi as EunSeom
He was born with the energy of Star of Disaster who is called the Blue Star. His mother fought alone to protect him, a cursed child, and he was able to live. He endured a lot of hardship as he grew up. He appeared again in Asdal as a disaster. He is a nomad of the Blue Stone Village. He becomes a conqueror that heads to the city-state of Asdal. After he lost his parents, he joined the Wahan people and was raised there. He has an unusual appearance, personality, and abilities.
Kim JiWon as TanYa
She is the heir of the Wahan people from her maternal family side. She was born under the same curse as EunSeom. She realized that her mission was planned over hundreds of years in the middle of her hardships. She becomes the most eminent person in Asdal and starts to ambition to be the first female politician. She is the first crown princess of the Empire of Asdal. She is the first love of EunSeom.
Jang DongGun as TaGon
He is from the Saenyeok Tribe. He is a famous war hero of Asdal. He led 20 years of victorious wars. He is talented at war. He increased little by little his power to lay the foundation of the city-state of Asdal. He dreams to be the first King.
Kim OkVin as TaeHa
She is the first woman in Asdal that raises her power as an empress. She is also the prettiest woman in Asdal.

A part of the production was done in Brunei. Another part of the filming was also done in the city of Osan, located down in the South of Seoul in Gyeonggi Province. They built a set for the drama and they have been filing since December 2018.
The drama has a reference to the mystical city of GoJoseon (2333 BCE-108 BCE) named Asadal.
About the Production Budget
The drama is produced by the famous Studio Dragon that has produced high-quality dramas “Mr. Sunshine“, “Memories of the Alhambra” and more. The production cost of “Arthdal Chronicles” is more than 40 billion KRW (or approximately 35,250,000 USD).
According to The Herald, Kim HyunYong, a researcher at EBEST Investment & Securities Co. said “There are plans for a season 2 in 2020. Goods, games, and others are ready.”
