‘Asadal Chronicles’ announces premiere date, releases first poster

Cable network tvN announced on April 30 that Asadal Chronicles (also known as Arthdal Chronicles), its upcoming weekend drama starring Song Joong-ki and Kim Ji-won, will premiere on June.

Asadal Chronicles will air on Saturdays and Sundays starting June 1, following the conclusion of ongoing legal thriller Confession, which is expected to air its finale on May 12.

Meanwhile, Netflix recently announced that it will launch the said drama also in June.

Set in a fictional land called Arth where the legendary city of Arthdal is located, Asadal Chronicles follows the life of heroes in an ancient land as they strive to protect their tribes and survive. The drama’s title and setting is based on the mythical capital city of Gojoseon in Korean mythology. Song Joon-ki, Jang Dong-gun, Kim Ji-won, and Kim Ok-bin are starring in the drama as individuals belonging to different tribes.

tvN also released the drama’s first poster on April 30. The latest promo shows someone overlooking a mysterious city, with a glorious sunrise over the mountains providing a dazzling backdrop for the entire image. The caption of the poster reads, “The birth of legends in the world.”

Asadal Chronicles is the first ever Korean drama to be set in an ancient times. According to its production team, its broadcast will have three parts that represent the monumental moments in the story. The first and the second parts—called “The Children of Prophecy” and “The Sky Turning Inside Out, Rising Land,” respectively—have six episodes each and will air consecutively from June to July for a total of 12 episodes.

On the other hand, the third part titled “Arth: The Prelude to All Legends” will air in the later part of 2019. While the first two parts aim to build the viewers’ interest in the series by introducing the characters, the third and last part will focus on the turning points of the main characters.
