JTBC’s upcoming coming-of-age school drama 18 Moments has confirmed the casting of Kang Ki-young on March 13.
The drama, also known as Moments of Eighteen, looks at the life of “immature youth,” focusing on the fleeting but precious moments of growing up. It will be headlined by K-pop star Ong Seung-woo and popular movie actress Kim Hyang-gi, who will both star as students. Ong will play Choi Joon-woo, a lonely boy who is terrible at expressing himself. He transfers to a new school where Kim’s character, Yoo Soo-bin, is a popular student. She is described as someone who bears up under immense parental pressure to be perfect and yearns secretly for independence. Meanwhile, rookie actor Shin Seung-ho will take on the role of Ma Hwi-young, another student at Soo-bin’s school who is suffering from insecurity complexes. These three teens will cross paths and end up changing each other’s lives.
Kang Ki-young will play Oh Han-kyeol, a teacher who watches his students grow up into different people. Known for playing mainly funny supporting roles, Kang Ki-young will show a different side to his ability with this role. Kang has gained recognition by appearing in popular dramas like What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim (2018), While You Were Sleeping (2017) and Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo (2016). He most recently appeared in Terius Behind Me.
Talking about his role, the actor said, “Each new character is an opportunity to learn. Playing a teacher will be a challenge for me. I hope to live up to the audience’s expectations.”
18 Moments is written by Shim Na-yeon (School Of Hip Hop) and will be directed by Yoon Kyung-ah (Girls’ Generation 1979). It will begin filming next month and air in the second half of the year.
