OCN’s upcoming psychological thriller Watcher has confirmed on Monday that Han Suk-kyu, Seo Kang-joon, and Kim Hyun-joo will lead its cast.
Watcher will center on three individuals whose lives have been destroyed by a tragedy as they work together to fight and uncover corruption among people in power. While it seems like another case of good cops dealing with bad cops, the drama will tackle various facets of humanity in a different light.
Veteran actor Han Suk-kyu (Romantic Doctor Teacher Kim) will play Do Chi-kwang, the leader of an anti-corruption team. He is an elite police officer who finds pride in catching the bad guys. When he finds out that the police force itself reeks of corruption, he remains a leader who does not let his personal relationships cloud his judgment as he strives to expose the bunch of crooks who run the police organization.
Seo Kang-joon (Are You Human Too?) has taken on the role of young motor patrol officer Kim Young-goon. Kim is a warm and affectionate person but pretends to be cold and unfriendly at work. He has a dark past he wants to erase from his memory but when he meets Do Chi-kwang at work, he is forced to face it and ends up joining the anti-corruption team. A previous report mentioned that Seo was offered the role of a former scientist who has witnessed the murder of his mother when he was a child.
Rounding out the main cast is actress Kim Hyun-joo (The Miracle We Met), who signed up for the role of popular prosector-turned-lawyer Han Tae-joo. Han started out in the police academy but changed paths and became a known prosecutor. She almost lost her life handling one of the many cases she won and has since set up her private law firm. She then finds herself working with the anti-corruption team.
Watcher will be helmed by PD Ahn Gil-ho, the man behind Memories of the Alhambra and Secret Forest, and penned by Han Sang-woon of The Good Wife. It is slated to air in the second half of 2019.
