IU and Hotel Del Luna Retains Top Spot in K-drama and Actor Buzz Rankings Through Second Week of August

tvN fantasy drama Hotel Del Luna is slowing down a bit for me, not as sticky fun to watch as the first 6 episodes were right out of the gate. But unlike the Hong Sisters last drama Hwayugi (A Korean Odysessy) it hasn’t devolved into nonsensical frustrating plot developments which I appreciate, it’s sticking to the core story of Man Wol’s redemption/reincarnation/moving on by resolving her unresolved transgressions and regrets.

That keeps Man Wol and IU herself as the center of the drama and fittingly she retains the buzz rankings for the second week in August as Hotel Del Luna also keeps up it’s high ratings and audience buzz. This is the best I’ve seen from Yeo Jin Gu since he became fully an adult actor rather than playing teen roles so I don’t feel as bad that he’s the greenery to IU’s flower but it’s going to be hard to elevate the two into the kind of world changing romance that high stakes K-dramas strive to create so that audiences get the catharsis and satisfaction we seek.
