Kim Jae-joong courted for Channel A’s ‘Jane The Virgin’ remake

K-pop star and actor Kim Jae-joong has received an offer to star in Channel A’s remake of the U.S. series Jane The Virgin, his agency C-JeS Entertainment confirmed on July 23.

Jane The Virgin is a romantic comedy series starring Gina Rodriguez as Jane Villanueva, a religious woman who has decided to stay a virgin until marriage, but accidentally becomes pregnant due to artificial insemination. Now on its fifth and final season, the incredibly popular and award-winning show was first broadcast on The CW in 2014.

Kim Jae-joong is courted to play the role of Han Ji-hoon, the Korean counterpart of Rafael Solano, who is the biological father of Jane’s child as well her main romantic interest. If Kim accepts the role, he will be returning to the small screen after two years. He was last seen in KBS2’s Manhole: Feel So Good.

While not a popular TV network, Channel A has been gaining attention for its unconventional remakes, one of which is the Lee Sang-yeob and Park Ha-sun starrer Love Affairs In The Afternoon. The currently airing drama is a remake of Hirugao, a 2014 Japanese TV series revolving around extramarital relationships that was praised for its sensitive portrayal of forbidden relationships.

Jane The Virgin is scheduled to premiere in December.
