Kim Min-kyu might take on this year his first ever leading role in a major free-to-air series. It was reported on April 3 that he has received an offer to star in KBS2’s upcoming Monday-Tuesday drama called Perfume.
The new series tells the story of a middle-aged woman who has lost her family after giving up the life she has always lived. She then encounters a mysterious perfume that could transform her into a young, beautiful woman. Shin Sung-rok (The Last Empress) will play the main role of a neurotic fashion designer who fears pursuing love. Meanwhile, the description of Kim’s character is still kept under wraps.
Kim Min-kyu captivated the hearts of the viewers when he debuted in a commercial film in 2013. He then appeared in tvN’s hit drama Signal in 2016, following which he appeared in several cable dramas including Because This Is My First Life, Meloholic, and Just Between Lovers. He also participated in Mnet’s I Can See Your Voice 4 and is currently appearing in Love Me Actually, a variety show airing on MBC.
The production team of Perfume is currently scouting cast members for the drama. Following decisions of Eric Mun and Kim Ji-suk to turn down the lead role in the series, Shin Sung-rok ended up taking on the role. Meanwhile, Go Won-hee (Your House Helper) is now being considered for the female lead role after Go Jun-hee (Possessed) rejected the same offer.
Perfume will be directed by Kim Sang-hwi (Mysterious Personal Shopper) and written by Choi Hyun-ok. Its premiere is slated for June.
