Netflix to launch 2 Korean dramas starring Jung Hae-in, Park Bo-young

Streaming giant Netflix announced on April 22 that it will launch globally two upcoming Korean dramas in May—One Spring Night starring Jung Hae-in and Han Ji-min and Abyss starring Park Bo-young and Ahn Hyo-seop.

One Spring Night (also known simply as Spring Night) follows two people leading a humdrum life who are shaken by unexpected love that drives them to seek their real romantic desires. A previous report described them as longtime lovers who discover new feelings of love as they assess their relationship. Han Ji-min (The Light In Your Eyes) plays a librarian who knows how to appreciate the small things in life while Jung Hae-in (Something In The Rain) has taken on the role of a well-mannered pharmacist who does not put off pursuing love that he thinks is the right one for him.

One Spring Night has reunited Jung with PD Ahn Pan-seok and screenwriter Kim Eun who worked together in the well-received romantic drama Something In The Rain. Ahn is also the director of award-winning series Heard It Through The Grapevine and Secret Love Affair.

Netflix will release two episodes of One Spring Night weekly in Asia and most English-speaking territories beginning May 22, one hour after its original telecast in Korea. The series will premiere locally on MBC every Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10 p.m. Korean Standard Time on the said date, following the conclusion of ongoing drama The Banker.

Viewers in the U.S., Mexico, Norway, and Japan, will be able to watch the series on Netflix on July 12, the day when all episodes will be released on the streaming service. In the rest of the world, two episodes will be made available weekly from June 1.

Meanwhile, Abyss is a fantasy Korean drama about a man and a woman who suddenly die but get another chance to live through a mysterious marble, albeit with a different physical appearance that reflects the “pureness” of their souls. Park Bo-young (Strong Woman Do Bong Soon) is starring in the series as a gorgeous and hot-tempered prosecutor who dies in an accident and comes back to life as a lawyer with an average-looking face. Ahn Hyo-seop (Thirty But Seventeen), on the other hand, is playing an unattractive rich guy who is smart and kind. He is also killed in an accident but the soul-reviving bead allows him to live again, this time as a handsome law firm administrator. Together, the two set on a journey to find out the actual cause of their death.

Abyss will premiere on tvN as a Monday-Tuesday drama on May 6. On the same day, Netflix will begin to release an episode in most English-speaking territories and Asia just a few hours after the original broadcast. In Canada, Argentina, Sweden, and Japan, all episodes will be released on June 26. Viewers from Hong Kong and Macau can also watch all episodes beginning July 1 while those from the rest of the world will enjoy two episodes per week beginning May 16 (12 a.m., PST).
