On the 21st, it was reported that Park Eun-bin and Seo Ji-hoon had received offers for tvN’s Man Who Bakes Bread. Park Eun-bin’s agency, Namoo Actors, said that the actress is currently reviewing the offer, with Seo Ji-hoon’s agency, Management Koo, releasing a similar statement.
The drama is based on a Naver webtoon called Welcome, which is about the double life of a cat who can turn into a man. The cat transforms itself into a human being in order to take care of its owner, a woman, and then falls in love with her. Yook Sung-jae has been considering to take on the role of Hong Jo, the cat, which was offered to him in December 2018.
Yook is a member of the K-pop group BtoB and has done popular dramas like School 2015 and The Village: Achiara’s Secret (2015). He was last seen in 2016’s Goblin, winning Best New Actor at the 10th Korea Drama Awards for his role.
If Park Eun-bin decides to star in the drama, she will be playing Kim Sol-ah, the owner of the cat. Park was the star of the JTBC slice-of-life series Age of Youth, appearing in two consecutive seasons in 2016 and 2017. She was last seen in The Ghost Detective (2018) opposite Daniel Choi.
Meanwhile, Seo Ji-hoon has been courted to play Lee Jae-sun, an owner of a cafe and Kim Sol-ah’s partner. Seo debuted in 2016 through tvN’s Signal, and went on to appear in dramas like Solomon’s Perjury (2016) and Prison Playbook (2017). His most recent TV project is Mama Fairy and The Woodcutter (2018).
Man Who Bakes Bread is being helmed by PD Lee Jong-jae, who directed Do Kyung-soo starrer 100 Days My Prince (2018), the fifth highest-rated Korean cable drama of all time. Teaming up with him is writer Joo Hwa-mi of the Introverted Boss (2017) fame. The series is expected to be broadcast in July.
