Sky Castle remained as the most buzzworthy Korean drama last week, according to the latest ranking released by Good Data Corporation on January 14 based on the study of the buzz generated by more than 30 dramas through online news, blogs, communities, videos, and social media posts.

The JTBC drama has now topped the weekly ranking of the most buzzworthy Korean series for the fifth consecutive week, obtaining almost a third (31.78 percent) of the total buzz. This recent achievement by the show is additional proof to its immense popularity among the viewers. The series made history on Saturday when its viewership rating hit the 19 % mark, unseating Reply 1988 from the no. 1 spot in the ranking of the highest-rated cable drama in Korean television history.

Sky Castle premiered on November 23, 2018 with a small viewership of 1.7 percent that rose more than fivefold to 9.5 percent on its fourth week, during which the series ranked first in the buzzworthy drama ranking for the first time. The satirical drama has become an unexpected commercial hit which elicited positive responses from viewers for its mockery of Korea’s elite parents’ obsession with competitive education. It centers on rich families desperate for their children to study in a prestigious university in Korea.

With four more episodes left to be broadcast in the next two weeks, Sky Castle surpassing 20 percent in viewership and maintaining its title as the most buzzworthy Korean drama is very likely to happen.

In second place in the buzzworthy drama ranking is SBS’s The Last Empress (12.91 %), followed by tvN’s Memories of the Alhambra (10.23 %). Two more tvN dramas made it to the top 5, namely Encounter (8.61 %) and The Crowned Clown (5.84 %).

Meanwhile, KBS2 dramas ― Liver or DieNeighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho 2, and My Only One ― occupy the next three spots while OCN’s God Quiz: Reboot and SBS’s My Strange Hero round out the top 10.
