Son Seok-gu, Jung Eun-chae in talks to join ‘The King: The Eternal Monarch’

Amid the rumors about their participation in the upcoming tvN drama The King: The Eternal Monarch, Son Seok-gu and Jung Eun-chae separately issued on Monday an official statement clarifying that their roles in the said series are not a done deal yet.

Written by Kim Eun-sook (Mr. Sunshine) and directed by Baek Sang-hoon (Moonlight Drawn By Clouds) who previously worked together in Descendants Of The Sun, The King: The Eternal Monarch is a fantasy historical drama about a Korean emperor (Lee Min-ho) and a modern-day detective (Kim Go-eun) who team up to close a portal that connects their two worlds and poses a danger to the people they care about. Aside from Lee and Kim, Woo Do-hwan has already been confirmed to star in the drama and play two roles—a public service worker in the modern world and the emperor’s bodyguard in the parallel world.

Son Seuk-gu, through his agency, said that he received an offer to participate in the production and is currently reviewing it. He is being courted to play the role of Kang Shin-jae, a homicide detective in the modern world who excels at solving cases with his cool-headed and persistent personality.

Son, who was last seen in Matrimonial Chaos, is starring in the upcoming tvN drama Designated Survivor: 60 Days.

Meanwhile, Jung Eun-chae clarified through her agency that although she recently had a discussion with the production team of The King: The Eternal Monarch, she has not received the script yet. However, she is reportedly offered the role of Koo Seo-ryeong, the youngest prime minister and first female prime minister of the Korean Empire.

Jung’s last TV project is OCN’s The Guest which was broadcast last year.

The King: The Eternal Monarch is set to premiere in the first half of 2020.
