Yook Sung-jae steps down from tvN’s ‘Man Who Bakes Bread’


It was announced on March 5 that BTOB’s Yook Sung-jae will no longer be participating in tvN’s upcoming drama Man Who Bakes Bread.

The announcement comes as a shock to the production team, as well as to the fans who are looking forward to seeing him on a television drama with a titular role. The actor’s participation was confirmed two weeks before this announcement.

According to a , “The news is true. Yook Sung-jae will no longer be working for the drama, but the production will proceed as scheduled.”

Man Who Bakes Bread is adapted from a webtoon called Welcome. It centers on a cat who can transform into a human. Originally, Yook Sung-jae was cast as the cat who becomes a human named Hong Jo. He lives a double life to become closer to his owner and ends up falling in love with her. As of today, there is still no one to replace Yook Sung-jae for the said role.

Actors Park Eun-bin (The Ghost Detective) and Seo Ji-hoon (Mama Fairy and The Woodcutter) were also reported to star in the drama. However, both actors have not confirmed their appearance yet. 

Yook Sung-jae solidified his name as an actor with his roles in Goblin, School 2015, and The Village: Achiara’s Secret.

Man Who Bakes Bread is written by Joo Hwa-mi of Marriage Not Dating and Introverted Boss and is under the direction of Lee Jong-jae of 100 Days My Prince. It is scheduled to premiere some time in the first half of 2019.
